If you’ve recently decided to follow Jesus—congratulations! You’ve made the most important decision of your life. Following Christ is a lifelong journey of growing in love, faith, and purpose. This page is designed to help you take your first steps as a new believer. Together, we can help each other love Jesus and love people.
Step 1: Find a Local Church Family
You were never meant to follow Jesus alone. The Christian life is best lived in community.
- Get connected to a Bible-believing church where you can worship, grow, and serve with others.

Step 2: Read Your Bible Daily
The Bible is God’s Word to you—it helps you know His heart and grow in truth.
- Start by reading the Book of Mark. It’s a great place to begin learning who Jesus is and what He taught.
- Use the Through the Word app to help guide you: Download Through the Word
Tip: Set aside a few minutes each day to read and reflect. Ask God to help you understand and apply what you read.
Step 3: Talk with God in Prayer
Prayer is simply talking and listening to God. It’s how we build a relationship with Him.
- You can pray anywhere and anytime—He’s always listening.
- Be honest and open. Share your heart, your struggles, and your thankfulness.
- Remember that prayer is also listening—take time to be still and let God speak to your heart through His Spirit and His Word.
“Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.” — James 4:8
Step 4: Grow in Understanding
As you walk with Jesus, you’ll have questions—and that’s okay!
Here are some trustworthy tools to help you grow in faith and biblical understanding:

- GotQuestions.org – Clear, biblical answers to life’s questions.
- Book Recommendation: Practicing the Way by John Mark Comer – A simple and practical guide to becoming an apprentice of Jesus.
Step 5: Take Your Next Step of Faith
Once you’ve started following Jesus, consider:
- Baptism – an outward expression of your inward faith in Christ.
- Joining a small group – to build friendships and grow together.
- Serving others – find a way to live out your faith through love and action.
